College Librarian at Diné College, Navajo Nation (Arizona, New Mexico)

Diné College is seeking a College Librarian to oversee library services to the college’s three libraries and nine instruction locations.
The Diné College Libraries are a rapidly growing system, with an acquisitions budget of over $280,000, fundraising in progress for a new branch library, and several new positions added in the last few years. Our collections include over 120,000 items and access to an impressive array of online databases.
Diné College (http://www.dinecollege.edu) is the oldest and largest of the Tribal Colleges, with teaching locations spread across the Navajo Nation in Arizona and New Mexico. Total FTE is approximately 1500 students, of which 99% are Native American. The college offers both Associates degrees and professional certificates, as well as a BA and M.Ed in conjunction with Arizona State University.
Reporting to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, the College Librarian College Librarian is chief academic and administrative officer of the library system and oversees professional and support staff at multiple locations.
The Navajo Nation offers a wide array of scenic and cultural attractions including Canyon de Chelly National Monument, Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site, Monument Valley Tribal Park, Navajo National Monument. Nearby are Mesa Verde National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, and numerous Native American tribes.

Operations Librarian, Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, Las Cruces, NM
(Full-Time, Regular) Performs professional-level librarian duties in overseeing management of Library budgets, contracts, professional development and training, personnel policies; helps coordinates Library budget development to identify requirements and processes financial documents; manages contracts and contractor service agreements; tracks, schedules and coordinates training and professional development requirements for technical and professional staff; provides information and interpretation concerning library services, policies and procedures.
Assists with collection development; reviews various sources and lists of library books & materials available, evaluates options, selects materials to meet the needs of the community, and recommends additions to the collection; reviews and evaluates current collection and recommends the removal of books and other resources that are no longer appropriate for the collection.
Prepares and processes a variety of departmental reports including operational and statistical reports; performs special research and program development projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Masters Degree in Library Science or related field and two years experience in a public library environment OR a combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.
HIRING RANGE: $38,633.00-$48,292.00 plus benefits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Under the general direction of the City Manager, manages, operates, directs and controls a municipal library system providing reading, reference and related information services for the residents and patrons of a multi-cultural diverse community. The Library Director is charged with the overall responsibility for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating city-wide library and related information service programs for the Octavia Fellin and Children’s Public Libraries. Directly and through subordinate supervisors, plans, organizes directs, monitors and develops the overall operation including establishing selection processes and procedures for new employee in-service training programs; develops, reviews and conducts personnel performance appraisals. Reviews and approves adult and children’s service programs and activities, including material selection policies and all material purchase requests. Reviews and approves technical services activities, including material selection insuring that materials meet the criteria of the library selection policy and are available in sufficient quantity. Prepares and monitors Annual Operating and Capital Improvement budgets reviewing and exercising final approval authority of library expenditure; establishes and monitors inventory control systems for all library furnishings and material, reviews and analyzes fee structure and fee collection process for adequacy and control. Acts as library department liaison with community groups to ensure that appropriate and sufficient contact is maintained to adequately assess the community’s library service needs. Works with other City departments to insure that the libraries are organized and operated efficiently and effectively in a manner that is consistent with the goals of the City. Emphasis is also placed upon the incumbent’s ability to develop and maintain efficient and effective operation within a highly visible, service-oriented municipal organization.

Recruitment re-opened; seeking a high-energy library administrator to lead a dynamic staff in a growing Library system. RRPL is a friendly, excellent, small city library system serving close to 1,000 people a day in three new or newly renovated facilities, with 36 committed FTE staff members, a strong collection of 160,000+ items, and program attendance of 1,200+ a month. The Library Director is a member of a group of talented professionals that comprise the City’s senior management team. The director serves under the direction of the City Manager and the advice of the Library Board. Professional library work in the children’s department. Work involves providing professional library expertise to a major library area in children's services. Work is performed in accordance with professional knowledge and standard library procedures. Responsible for evaluation, collection development, weeding and maintenance of the children’s collection.
Responsible for understanding children’s basic behavior patterns and initiating appropriate responses when required. Plans, organizes and directs children’s projects and programs such as Summer Reading Program, Story Times, tours, outreach contacts, etc.
Staffs the children’s reference desk and provides general reference guidance and specialized reference guidance in a subject area specialty, gives out information both in person and over the phone, may do specialized and difficult subject matter reference work away from reference desk
Must possess and maintain a valid Class D driver's license issued by the State of New Mexico and have a satisfactory driving record. An out-of-state current driver’s license will be accepted. If hired, a New Mexico driver’s license must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire. Must be certified as a Grade II Librarian by the State of New Mexico within one year of date of hire. Must be able to pass a rigid background investigation including work history, criminal records, driving records and other records deemed necessary.
Educational Requirements
Either 1) A Bachelor's degree, preferably a Master's degree, in Library Science from an ALA-accredited college or university;
Or 2) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university preferably supplemented by sufficient library science credits to qualify as a major and two years' increasingly responsible advanced library experience.
