E-List Information
NMLA hosts an e-list for NMLA members
to keep in contact with one another. To subscribe or unsubscribe
please e-mail the Administrator.
Scope and Purpose
The purpose of this list is to promote communications between libraries
and librarians in New Mexico. Appropriate postings to the list
include: job openings, notices of library-related workshops or classes,
requests for information on how other libraries do things, discussion
of current library events in the State.
Avoid posting the following:
advertisements, non-library-related messages, personal attacks on others,
chain letters, jokes. Occasionally, a subject will come up that generates
many posts because of its controversial nature. If the discussion threatens
to overwhelm our mailboxes or becomes acrimonious, the listowner or
other list members may suggest that those interested in discussing it
further take their discussion off the list.
Legal Disclaimer
The NMLA email list is an unmoderated venue for discussion of library
issues. The New Mexico Library Association and the listowner are not
responsible for any postings to the list or consequences that may arise
for these postings.
General Netiquette
· Put "NMLA" as the first word in the Subject line
· When replying to an article, only quote the portions that are
absolutely necessary to help the reader and delete the rest.
· Lots of communication to other people on the list can be accomplished
through personal e-mail. Don't reply to the list unless you think your
mail would be helpful and of interest to the majority.
· Do not send copyrighted material. Instead use an excerpt/quote
from the material and include the URL.
· Include the http:// part of the URL in your e-mail messages
about sites for the convenience or readers with smart mail applications.
Example: http://adoptioncenter.com instead of adoptioncenter.com.
· Be civil. Rude or mean behavior is discouraged.
List Mechanics
· When replying to a posting, consider whether you need to reply
to the whole list or just to an individual.
· Help readers by giving your posting a descriptive subject line.
For example, "Job opening at New Mexico State University Library"
lets you know what the message is about.
· Do not use attachments or send large files to the list. These
may cause others' mailboxes to crash or overflow.
· Do not reuse or forward messages unless permission is granted
by sender. An email message is a manuscript owned by the sender unless
otherwise indicated.
· No gathering of e-mail addresses of subscribers or posters
is allowed for any purpose other than list management.
· There are many newer users of the Internet and email on this
list. They may make some mistakes in posting. Please be supportive and
encouraging to them.
Inappropriate List Use, Warnings & Suspension
· Do not attack inappropriate posters. You may send your comments
to the listowner.
· Listowner may provide direct warnings to problem posters.
· Suspension from the list is at the sole discretion of list
owner.
Attacks, excessive off-topic postings, ignoring
list guidelines, etc. have the following consequences:
· 1st time: warning
· 2nd time: 30 day removal from list
· 3rd time: permanent removal from the list
Please note: the goal here is not to remove people from the list. Anyone
who is warned should feel free to discuss their situation with the listowner.
A subscriber may appeal a decision of the listowner to the NMLA Executive
Board.
